Four Tigers named All鈥慍anadians

Soccer players Mo Tolba, Jack Ellis, Eliia Al-Shamlat and were all named U SPORTS all-Canadians on Wednesday night.

At the U SPORTS soccer banquets on Wednesday night, four Tigers were recognized for their success this season by being named all-Canadians.

In Toronto, the men's soccer team members Mohammed Tolba, Jack Ellis and Eliia Al-Shamlat were all honoured with the recognition. The Tigers finished their season with an 8-2-2 record and a second-place finish in the AUS regular season.聽They earned a bye to the semifinal where they beat STFX 2-1 in added time, earning a spot at the U SPORTS Championship. In the final the Tigers beat the Cape Breton Capers in added time to win the AUS banner.

Mo Tolba, First Team All-Canadian

Coming off his award-winning rookie season, Stellarton鈥檚 Mo Tolba has added more honours to his trophy case. After recording four goals and five assists this season, he was named an AUS first team all-star last month, the second of his career. 聽A medical sciences student, Mo featured in every regular season game for the Tigers this year and was twice named the PepsiCo athlete of the week.

Jack Ellis, Second Team All-Canadian

Fifth-year defender Jack Ellis has earned his first national recognition, selected as a second team all-Canadian this year. The Liverpool, England native led the Tigers back line in every game this season, recording four clean sheets. He also added two assists, two regular season goals and scored the game winner against STFX in the AUS semifinals last month. A commerce student, Jack has been named the PepsiCo athlete of the week twice this season and was named an AUS first team all-star.

Eliia Al-Shamlat, All-Rookie Team

Eliia started 11 regular season games for the Tigers and both playoff games. The Odessa, Ukraine native recorded one assist, helped the Tigers record four clean sheets and was named to the AUS all-rookie team. 聽

The Tigers are in Toronto this week for the U SPORTS Men鈥檚 Soccer Championship hosted by the University of Toronto. They face York University in their quarter-final game on Thursday, November 6 at 11:00 AM ET/ 12:00 PM AT. You can catch the action on CBCSports.ca, CBC Gem and on the CBC Sports YouTube channel.

Women鈥檚 soccer player Paris Axam was also recognized for her performance this season at the U SPORTS Women鈥檚 Soccer Championship banquet in Hamilton, Ontario on Wednesday.

Paris Axam, Second Team All-Canadian

A fourth-year arts and social sciences student, Paris started every game for the Tigers this season. The Ottawa, Ontario native led the Tigers in points recording five goals and adding six assists. She was named PepsiCo athlete of the week and an East Coast Lifestyle AUS Athlete of the week as well as an AUS first team all-star.
