Brianna Hepditch talks about her experience working as an extern in SCSD's clinics

We sat down with Brianna and asked about her experiences with our Community Services/七色视频 Hearing Aid Assistance Program (DHAAP) and our Hear@Dal program for low-income seniors:

SCSD: Can you share why student involvement in our school audiology clinics is so important?

Brianna: Absolutely. The clinic provides an invaluable opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience. It鈥檚 one thing to learn about audiology in lectures, but it鈥檚 entirely different to apply that knowledge in real-life situations. Working in the clinic helps us understand the continuity of care and how each step in the process impacts patients' lives.

SCSD: What have you found most impactful about working in the clinic?

Brianna: Seeing firsthand how audiologic care improves the quality of life for community members has been incredible. Every single person who comes into the clinic has a story, and being part of their journey is both humbling and inspiring. It鈥檚 amazing to witness the difference we can make, whether it鈥檚 fitting someone with hearing aids or providing counseling.

SCSD: How has the clinic prepared you for your future career?

Brianna: The hands-on training has been invaluable. For example, working with language interpreters has taught me to communicate effectively with diverse populations. Exposure to such a unique clientele has broadened my perspective and will undoubtedly make me a better audiologist. It鈥檚 an experience I deeply appreciate and value.
